Accounting Management Solutions, a CliftonLarsonAllen LLP Division has been retained by START to conduct a search for a Director of Development.
The Search
START provides its self-referred patients with holistic, evidence-based healthcare that supports the start and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle. Our eight clinics include seven opioid treatment programs in the communities of Brooklyn and Manhattan. In addition to offering primary medical care and comprehensive HIV/AIDS services, we also provide mental health counseling to adolescents in the juvenile justice system.

The Role
The Director of Development will build the development/fundraising initiatives of START and oversee the implementation toward a philanthropic environment. The DOD will leverage the work of START to build a fundraising infrastructure, cultivate relationships, improve the success of fundraising events, and improve the agency’s efforts in private and public foundations and corporations. Assist in the development of new revenue sources through public and private grants, major gifts, sponsorships and local sources. The Director of Development will promote professional interdisciplinary collaboration and support teamwork to improve the marketing, branding and development activities of the agencies Mission, Vision and Values.
The Responsibilities
- Develops and implements organizational fundraising plan in collaboration with the CEO
- Cultivate relationships at the local level, with agencies, foundations, corporations and government entities; increase grant development, proposal output, and solicitation of prospects
- Identify new revenue sources via public and private grants, major gifts, sponsorships and collaborations
- Coach and mentor development staff toward unified and collaborative practices
- Collaborate with Communications & Marketing Director in agency messaging, website development, etc…
- Functions as organizational spokesperson with philanthropic efforts, press releases and event management
- Serves as liaison between funding agencies for deliverables, meeting state regulations and compliance
- Collaborates with CEO to develop organization into a giving and fundraising environment
The Qualificiations
- 7-10 years of progressive development experience within a mid-size non-profit organization
- Proven track record with; major gifts, foundations & corporations, grant writing & RFP’s
- Bachelor’s Degree required; CFRE highly preferred; Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of implementing a fundraising plan
- Experience with special events/galas and increasing net profits
- Strong verbal & written communications skills
- Flexible, collaborative, coaching management style
- Knowledge of donors, foundations and low hanging fruit within social/human services sector
- High level of work ethic and sophistication to solicit and develop a Board of Directors
